Because America's Founders did not believe in "the Rapture," some today would criticize them, using the hated word "Preterism." "Preterism" is the view that prophecies were fulfilled in the past. Specifically, prophecies of the "end of the world" were really prophecies of the "end of the age," that is, the age of the temple in Jerusalem which was destroyed by Roman armies in A.D. 70. In "the last days" of the Old Covenant, the temple system was being shaken and destroyed, and the unshakable New Covenant was being erected in its place.

Hebrews 12:27-29
Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

In 1611 the King James translators were not afraid to translate certain verses with words which would never be uttered by Christians waiting for the rapture:

Ephesians 3:21
Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.

Isaiah 45:17-19
But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

To their credit, America's Founding Fathers believed that liberty and peace had a future in this world.
